Twelve things not to miss in Båstad

While you are here for The Aurora, take the opportunity to experience the very best of this coastal gem. Here are twelve things not to miss during your stay in Båstad.

Sauna & sea at Kallbadhuset

Sixty meters out into the Kattegat stands one of Båstad’s most photographed landmarks – the iconic cold-water bathhouse. Warm wood, open horizon, and the Nordic ritual of stepping directly into the sea. Few experiences feel more Scandinavian — or more quietly luxurious.

Champagne above the coastline

The Rooftop at Hotel Skansen is where conversations stretch into sunset. With sweeping views over the horizon, The Rooftop blends effortless elegance with summer ease and is the perfect setting for sunset drinks with a view.

IMG_3404.jpeg

Centre Court – A legacy of tennis

In Båstad, tennis is not an event – it is heritage. Stroll by the Centre Court where the Swedish Open is played – a court where legends such as Björn Borg, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal have competed. And if you’re tempted to play yourself, bring your tennis whites and book a court right next to Centre Court for a match of your own. The training facilities remain active, reflecting a living heritage at the heart of this seaside town.

IMG_3419.jpeg

The BJÄRE Cocktail

Created for the prestigious World Class competition and finalist in Sydney, this award-winning cocktail has become a signature of the region. Grapefruit zest meets local flavours in a perfectly balanced blend – gently sweet, refreshingly tart and elegantly spirited. Best enjoyed on a sunny afternoon at Sand’s terrace or at the iconic Mr G Cocktail Bar.

IMG_3405.jpeg

Dinner at Sand

Fine dining in a relaxed coastal setting, where every table enjoys uninterrupted sea views. The menu celebrates locally sourced produce, including seasonal vegetables, regional poultry and a strong focus on organic ingredients. The extensive wine list spans the globe and all price ranges, complemented by Swedish wines from nearby vineyards. And don’t miss the oysters.

IMG_3406.jpeg

A slow afternoon at the spa

A tranquil sanctuary designed for complete relaxation. From quiet lounges to tailored treatments, the spa offers a head-to-toe experience rooted in calm, restoration and understated luxury.

IMG_3418.jpeg

Golden hour at Papas

Inspired by Mediterranean cuisine and crafted with locally sourced produce from the Bjäre Peninsula, Papas offers a refined yet welcoming dining experience. Begin in Papas Garden with a cocktail at golden hour, overlooking The Aurora Yacht Show in the harbor, then stay as the atmosphere evolves during Late Night @ Papas, with DJs from 10 PM onwards. Every table comes with a sea view.

Pepes Bodega — Where Båstad evenings end

A true institution and an essential part of the Båstad summer scene. Open from lunch until late, Pepes blends heritage with contemporary energy — serving its iconic pizzas (a tradition for nearly 35 years) alongside modern street food. The signature cocktail, YOU SO PEPE, delivers a vibrant twist of their own crafted gin with a bright yuzu and lemon finish — pure Scandinavian Riviera spirit.

The beach — Båstad’s free luxury

No entrance fee, no velvet ropes — just soft sand, salt-kissed air and an ever-changing horizon. Båstad’s beaches are where morning swimmers, families, entrepreneurs and international visitors naturally converge. Barefoot simplicity meets Riviera elegance. Settle into the rhythm of the tide, stay for sunset, and experience the kind of luxury that cannot be reserved — only felt.

Art, open roads and coastal cafés

Bjäre has long attracted artists drawn to its light and landscape, and Båstad is home to several intimate galleries showcasing contemporary and Scandinavian art, such as Bjäre Konsthall and Galleri Blå. Make an afternoon of it — the roads winding through the peninsula are breathtakingly scenic, rolling between sea views and open farmland. Combine gallery visits with a drive along the coast and pause at Kattviks Café for coffee with a view. Here, the journey itself becomes part of the experience.

Vineyards and farm boutiques of Bjäre

Bjäre has quietly emerged as one of Scandinavia’s most exciting wine regions. At Thora Vingård near Torekov, 53,000 vines — from Pinot Noir to Chardonnay and Solaris — are cultivated with organic and biodynamic care, shaped by coastal winds and guided by nature’s rhythms. Continue through the rolling countryside to discover all the farm shops offering freshly picked berries, seasonal vegetables and locally crafted wines. A taste of Bjäre to bring home.

Embrace the Bjäre state of mind

In Båstad, luxury is never loud. It is woven into the landscape — the sea, the light, the pace. Here, international visitors, entrepreneurs, celebrities, and long-time residents blend naturally. Privacy is respected. Elegance is understated.
